The chopped steak is moderately priced, with a light crunch on the outside, and there are good choices of sides. As an appetizer, try the "Cheddar Poppers" they were not greasy, though fried.
We were promptly seated by the pleasant hostess, but service dropped off after that. The waitress took our drink orders, but it was nearly 10 minutes before the drinks arrived. Mind you, we were on our way home and not out looking for a way to kill an evening. The live music from the adjacent -and open to the dining room- bar may have been nice to listen to, but was in discordant competition with the equally loud piped-in music.
It would be nice if they cut the recorded stuff when there's a live musician.
So, back to the service. Another table of 2 was seated near us about 5 min after our arrival and had their drinks and a basket of 4 rolls before our beverages arrived. Our order was finally taken; by the time the food arrived, our tea was down to the last inch-and-a-half, being rationed to last we were famished from travel and could have easily sucked down 2 glasses apiece while waiting, but The food arrived via someone other than our server who confirmed the orders and left.
Our server came by after a bit and asked if we needed anything;we requested steak sauce, rolls and tea as by then the tea consisted of not much more than tan watered ice. So, the BBQ platter I had contained 4 meats: 2 ribs, brisket, chunks of chicken and pulled pork. The BBQ sauce on the meat was fairly mild with a good flavor and the meat had a delicious smoky flavor.
The sauce served on the side was much spicier; I used this beneficially on the ribs and brisket - not the meatiest ribs I've had, but of good flavor and a very good, tender brisket- and the spicier sauce forced me to use the cold water in my tea glass to cool my mouth. So, we waited, and waited Just as we were getting ready to take our glasses and go in search of our server, she appeared in the back of the restaurant, removing a tip from the table that had just left.
Now she'll get our tea! Wrong again. Another 5 minutes passed before she came to bring the tea. When I said that we had been waiting quite a long time for the tea to the point where I'd had to stop eating because of the fire in my mouth, instead of a profuse apology, the server had the audacity to say she had been watching our glasses from afar and we had only recently emptied them.
Perhaps she forgot that she'd promised refills nearly 20 minutes before. Her voice throughout was quite loud and embarassing as she was saying all this, telling us she had NEVER had a complaint about her service. Then the refill of the sweet tea tasted unsweetened. I asked if this was sweet tea, to which she replied that it was, but we both found it to taste unsweetened; this upset her again, though we both just added sweetner and started to enjoy the cooling liquids.
Soon the server swooped in, leaving 2 teas she had sweetened herself to our worry and taking the ones we had just sweetened. This was such an upsetting meal that I certainly didn't want any more confrontation and declined the manager offer. The steak we had was cooked perfectly medium and the BBQ combo plate would have been wonderful except that nearly half of my pile of pulled pork consisted of a chunk of gristle.
Our server never came near our table again - no more refills, no more rolls, no checking on the meals once we were able to eat them. We spent an hour and 25 minutes in there - no appetizers or desserts, just dinner - and had such an upsetting time with the poor service and confrontational server that we will not be returning.
Good food for the price. Decent portions not too large nor too small. The four of us had pulled pork sandwiches, pork player, and brisket platter pictured As you can see the sides are good sides Ive had smaller in other restaurants.
